ePortfolio Development is building Webpages...That's all it is…then selecting the pages you want to put together (like making an album) and providing links (like on Facebook or a blog) so that people can get your album. You can put anything into your eportfolio "album", not just pictures...movies, music, links to other webpages...any kind of multimedia!

ePortfolio development is part of the Fairhaven Learning Project, a technology project for everyone...a new way of learning.

Public and Private

Consider which parts of your website should be public and which should be private. Most of it should be for everyone to share...things that you are working on should be left under wraps until your ready to put them out there.  You want what you do and say  to help other people learn something. Take You Tube for example.  There is so much stuff on there!...lots of it is really fun to look at, lots of it is ...well...junk, let's face it.  But so much on You tube is really helpful, and great resources for learning.  We need to be able to pick the best out and then learn from it.

Select a webpage site that lets you create your own webpage.

Here are some good website builders to get  started.  Some of the good ones are:

http://pbworks.com

http://wetpaint.com

http://weebly.com

www.google.sites.com

If you know of any others, add them here...just leave a comment...

Most of the webpage sites that let you create your own site allow you to choose which pages will be public and which will be private.  Each website that you create should have a specific purpose and be directed at a specific audience...give it a focus.

Editable or Not Editable

Do you want anyone to be able to edit your webpage, or just you? Select a wiki-type webpage site if you want other people to edit your pages.  How about comments?  Do you want to collect comments or not?  Do you want comments to be the main focus of your site, then consider a blog.  Use a blog if you want entries to be chronological...create an ongoing dialog with others.

Handling Images

Your website should have lots of images that help explain the text.  Decide how you will handle images.  There are lots of websites that allow you to create and organize images.  A good one is http://photobucket.com .  On Photobucket you can create albums, edit images, add effects and create slideshows.
